Contribution to My Learning and the Learning Community

I am assigning myself a score of 80/100 for my contributions to my learning and to the learning community in this course. This score reflects that I successfully met all of the key contributions outlined in the rubric, including finishing assignments, engaging with course materials, and actively participating in discussion posts. However, I recognize that I did not fully meet all supporting contributions, specifically in consistently collaborating with a base group from the beginning of the course. While I have now joined a group and begun that process, the delay impacted my ability to fully contribute at the level expected for a higher score.

Throughout this course, I remained committed to my own learning by completing all required readings, videos, and assignments. I worked with the course concepts and made intentional connections to my role as an educator. The ideas surrounding creating significant learning environments, student ownership, and meaningful use of technology directly align with my current work in the classroom and my innovation plan. I regularly pushed myself to think beyond surface-level understanding and focused on how to apply these strategies to improve student participation and educational outcomes. While I am currently awaiting professor feedback on some assignments, I am fully prepared to revise and improve my work as part of the learning process, as I understand that revision is an essential part of growth and self-directed learning.

In addition to my own learning, I added to the learning community through active participation in discussion posts. I consistently made an effort to share thoughtful responses that connected course content to real-life classroom experiences. My goal in these discussions was not only to complete the requirement but to contribute ideas that others could reflect on and build from. I also made sure my posts were submitted in a timely manner, allowing my peers the possibility to engage and respond. While I may not have consistently incorporated research citations in every post, I focused on providing meaningful, experience-based insights that added value to the conversation.

One area where I recognize I could have performed better is in my collaboration with a base group. Initially, I did not establish or engage with a consistent group, which limited my ability to provide and receive peer feedback at a deeper level. However, I have since joined a group and am now actively participating in that collaborative process. The members of my base group include: Tinda Noble and Monique Sheurich. Moving forward, I plan to be more intentional about early collaboration, as I now see the benefit it provides not only to my own understanding but also to the shared learning experience.

Reflecting on this experience, I understand that being a self-directed learner involves more than completing assignments; it requires active engagement, collaboration, and a willingness to continuously improve. While I am proud of my consistency and effort in completing course requirements and participating in discussions, I also acknowledge the importance of strengthening my collaboration and leadership within a learning community.

Overall, this course has strengthened the importance of reflection, ownership, and continuous growth. Moving forward, I will apply these lessons by engaging earlier in collaborative opportunities, seeking out feedback proactively, and continuing to improve my work based on both peer and instructor input. This process has helped me grow not only as a student but also as an educator committed to creating meaningful and impactful learning experiences.
